Bridleway Clearance – The Volunteer Way

A different way of ‘putting our money where our mouth is’…

This time in a more physical way, partnering with the Exmoor National Park Field Services Team (ENP), to clear a rather overgrown section of permissive bridleway by Wimbleball Lake (marked in purple on the map), that one of our members Jo Woodman had reported via the Explore Somerset - Rights of Way, Open Spaces and Area Management map.

Jo had reported the issues and was keen to help clear it for local riders, so Jo, Phil Stuckey from ENP, Greg Glendell - another of our members, and myself - Amanda Hamley, set off with tools to the ready!

A couple of hours later, a lot had been achieved, with trees, gorse and bramble being cut back to open up this once overgrown bridleway section.

ENP work relentlessly to try and keep our bridleways accessible, but with so much work to do and only a small team, clearance and repairs can take some time to be resolved.  As they say, many hands make light work.  So, if you’d like to set up a small working party in your area for a few hours, or join in with a working party that has already been organised, please get in touch by emailing info@westsomersetbridleways.org.uk

All tools and supervision on the day will be provided by ENP.

Come and enjoy the great outdoors, meet new people and make a difference!
